Fashion Designer Anya Liesnik hailing from Ukraine, and now based in Germany, is a total one to watch when it comes to cool, modern style.

Her label is all about “contemporary fashion combined with the fascination for the charismatic style of iconic women,” as described by British Vogue.

Meade Magazine got a chance to chat to the rising European designer to talk all things design, inspiration and her collection.

What inspired you to work in fashion?

I was always fascinated by the magic of how a dress can create a new personality for a woman.

You have just launched your SS15 collection. What was the inspiration behind it?

My new collection “Reflections” is inspired by beautiful Asian drawings – Geishas, Ghosts, and Butterfly motives. The collection itself consists of two parts: monochrome charcoal grey coloured parts, where the sheer dresses evoke Asian-style ghosts, and the opposite, – bright colours, with shiny strawberry reds, royal & neon blues, with a candylike sweet Asian touch.

What do you do over the course of an average day?

My day mostly starts and ends with checking and writing emails with a cup of black coffee in the morning and tea in the evening. The thing I love about being a fashion designer – you never get bored by your own work, I get inspired by new things and my goals always change to improve myself.

My days differ so I can go from designing new pieces one day, to preparing for photoshoots, and then on set working with models and photographers.

How long does it take to make one gown? From start to finish?

The process of creating a dress can vary from piece to piece. For example, for a dress I did with a printed pattern, I started designing the pattern, then I made several tests of the print to get best results. It is difficult to say how long it will take to create a gown. Sometimes a dress needs time to be developed fully until I’m happy with it. I often work with draping techniques to create exciting lines for a new piece. All together it can take up to a month.

Do you have a muse?

My muses are mostly iconic woman of all time, who influenced the fashion world though their excellent taste and unique style.

Which is your preferred season, Spring or Fall?

Definitely Spring, because of all the fresh bright colours, which I just love.

Which celebrities would you love to dress?

Lana del Rey and Amy Adams. For me they are both the embodiment of femininity and iconic style.

If you could give women one piece of fashion advice, what would it be?

Never be afraid to appear strong and feminine in the way you dress. It is your most powerful weapon.
